The life of a princess is still the life of a playful, carefree little girl. The Buckingham Palace has opened the exhibition Royal Childhood, featuring the royal family’s precious childhood memories from the past 250 years. A great opportunity to see the ways in which the lives of these children were unique and the ways they were like any other kids…but with a ‘mini’ Aston Martin.

30 Royal children from 9 generations are represented in the exhibition by almost 150 items. From the toys and clothes they used, to things they made themselves, like the oldest item on the show: a handwriting assignment by George, Prince of Wales, from October 26 1767 (having trouble with the date, the poor thing writes ‘O O October’).

triciclo

Royal Collection Trust / (C) Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 2014.

This is the newest item in the exhibition, the tricycle Mayor of London Boris Johnson sent Prince George as a gift for his first birthday.

The royal family like you’ve never seen them before, having pillow fights with the Queen Mother,  playing peek-a-boo or learning to dance. In terms of toys…not so normal. Prince George’s rocking horse was not courtesy of an loving auntie but of Barack Obama (complete with its head carved from the branch of an oak tree from the White House Lawn).
