The Guardian called it “the best-dressed haunted house you will ever visit”. They say the exhibition at the V&A dedicated to the late Alexander McQueen is a spine-tingling experience, and now we know why. Head over to the V&A like we did, and be inspired by some of the strangest and most beautiful dresses of our time.

The Savage Beauty exhibition, which opened at the museum last saturday, would probably have pleased McQueen. Starting with the fact that it’s not your tipical exhibition, not just a beautiful show. It’s an experience full of surprises and very sensorial. At times funny, at times moving, with a touch of darkness here and there.

Each one of the rooms focuses on a visual theme, like victorian gothic, exoticism or nature, and in parallel tell the story of McQueen, his career and what it was like to be at his shows.

One of the highlights of the show is the Cabinet of Curiosities, with its iconic Spray Paint Dress at the centre of the room and walls stacked with curiosities, all reconstructing McQueen’s legend.

Pepper’s Ghost room holds another trademark of the designer, the smoke-vision of Kate Moss up in thin air by a Victorian technique using projectors and mirror.

One can’t help thinking of the irony, as in this exhibition there is perhaps another ghost: that of McQueen himself.

Savage Beauty will be at the V&A until July 19, 2015.
